LAMBING OUTSIDE 2023

Lambing 2023

2023 if the first year we chose to lamb outside, with our new flock of Exlana ewes. Lambing from March to June.

What were the differences?

Lambing outside is very different to what we are used to from lambing inside. When lambs are born outside we have to catch them to data record and tag them, this was sometimes proven to be easier said than done! They are very quick!

If a ewe has more than twins we take the surplus lambs away to be bottle fed, a ewe only has two teats so can rear two strong lambs.

We down tail dock any of our lambs, the Exlana is a shedding breed, they are less likely to get dirty on their back ends therefore not attracting flies that will lay eggs and hatch into maggots.

Our Open Events

We held multiple open events this year, with the sheep focusing on our change of breed and how this changes our farming practices to be more sustainable and fitting in with our regenerative ethos.
